🇺🇸 Getting Married in Scotland From the USA
If you are an American couple dreaming of getting married in Scotland, Logie Country House gives you the chance to turn the wedding into a proper Scottish experience for you and your guests.
Set in Aberdeenshire in north-east Scotland, Logie Country House is a historic, exclusive-use Scottish country house with 18 bedrooms sleeping around 50 guests, a private ballroom, indoor heated swimming pool, two outdoor hot tubs and extensive riverside and woodland grounds.
Rather than asking friends and family to cross the Atlantic for a single wedding day, you can bring everyone together for a relaxed 3-day wedding in Scotland — with time before and after the wedding itself to actually enjoy being together. 🥂
For our broader international wedding guide, see our Destination Wedding in Scotland page.
🏰 Looking for a Scottish Castle Wedding?
Many American couples begin their search looking for a Scottish castle wedding.
Logie is actually a historic Scottish country house rather than a medieval castle. The house dates back to the 1680s and combines historic Scottish character with modern wedding facilities.
You still get the parts people usually want from a castle wedding: exclusive use, historic rooms, open fires, beautiful grounds, woodland, Scottish scenery and the feeling of having a private estate to yourselves.
Just across from the house is our purpose-built, air-conditioned and soundproofed ballroom for up to 160 day guests, with the bar and dance floor together in the same room.
And yes, we have Highland cows too. 🐮
💻 Plan Your Wedding From America Without Repeated Trips to Scotland
Planning a wedding several thousand miles away sounds complicated, but much of it can be organised remotely.
Our experienced wedding team can help you plan using email, video calls and virtual viewings, while our local suppliers already know Logie and how weddings here operate.
We can point you towards photographers, florists, celebrants, entertainment, transport and other trusted local suppliers rather than leaving you to research everything from scratch in another country.
Wedding-day catering and bar service are provided by our long-standing catering partner, Hudsons Catering.

🛏️ Accommodation for Your American & Canadian Guests
Accommodation is one of Logie’s biggest advantages for an overseas wedding.
There are 18 bedrooms sleeping around 50 guests in the main house and courtyard, including 15 ensuite bedrooms and step-free courtyard accommodation.
Instead of everyone staying in different hotels and arranging transport backwards and forwards, many of your closest friends and family can stay right at the wedding venue.
Guests can have breakfast together, use the swimming pool and hot tubs, relax around the house and spend time together throughout the stay.
👀 Even More Accommodation Planned From September 2027
We are currently in the process of purchasing the beautiful neighbouring Coach House, around a two-minute walk from Logie.
It has 6 bedrooms sleeping an additional 12 guests in standard beds, excluding camp beds and cot beds. Subject to completion of the purchase, we are planning for the Coach House to be available from September 2027.
That could be particularly useful for North American destination weddings where a larger group is travelling to Scotland.
If you are interested in a wedding from September 2027 onwards, contact Stef about Coach House availability.
✈️ Travelling From the USA or Canada to Logie
Logie Country House is approximately 25 minutes from Aberdeen International Airport.
Aberdeen has connections through major international hubs including London Heathrow, Amsterdam and Dublin, making it possible to reach north-east Scotland with one connecting flight from many North American cities.
Some guests also fly into Edinburgh or Glasgow and make the journey north part of a longer Scottish holiday.
This works particularly well for destination weddings because your guests can combine the wedding with time exploring Scotland — castles, whisky distilleries, golf, countryside and the Highlands are all popular additions to the trip.

📜 Can Americans Legally Get Married in Scotland?
Yes. American and Canadian couples can legally marry in Scotland, but there are important legal and immigration requirements to deal with before travelling.
For couples coming to the UK specifically to marry and who do not intend to live in the UK afterwards, GOV.UK provides a Marriage Visitor visa route. An ordinary UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) does not allow somebody to marry, register a civil partnership or give notice of marriage.
You should therefore check the current UK immigration requirements for your individual circumstances before booking flights.

Marriage paperwork in Scotland
You will also need to complete the Scottish marriage-registration process.
National Records of Scotland says completed marriage notices must reach the registrar at least 29 days before the wedding, but recommends submitting them around 10 to 12 weeks beforehand so that documents can be checked.
Non-UK nationals may also be asked for additional forms and supporting documents depending on their circumstances.
This is one part of your wedding where we recommend relying on the registrar and official government guidance rather than blogs or social media, as immigration and documentation rules can change.

🎉 Why a 3-Day Wedding Makes Sense When Guests Cross the Atlantic
If your guests have travelled from New York, Boston, California, Texas, Toronto or anywhere else in North America, giving them only a few hours together on the wedding day seems a little mean. 😄
A 3-day wedding at Logie gives everyone time to settle in before the wedding and a whole day afterwards to relax together.
Day 1 – Arrive at Logie
✅ Check in from 1pm.
✅ Get everyone settled into their rooms.
✅ Catch up properly after everyone’s journey.
✅ Arrange your own food and drinks for the evening.
✅ Relax in the pool or hot tubs.
Day 2 – Wedding Day 💍
💒 Ceremony in the courtyard, ballroom, woodland or elsewhere around the grounds.
🥂 Drinks and photographs around Logie.
🍽️ Wedding meal and bar with Hudsons Catering.
🎶 Dancing in your private ballroom.
Day 3 – The Recovery Day 😎
🔥 BBQ, brunch or another relaxed meal.
🏊 Swimming pool and hot tubs.
🌳 Walks, games and time around the grounds.
🥂 An entire day with your guests without a wedding timetable.
🍷 Organise your own food and alcohol on the non-wedding day.
Day 4 – Checkout
Enjoy breakfast, gather everyone together one final time and check out at 12 noon.
🌙 Add the Evening Before
For overseas couples, an additional evening before the normal check-in can be particularly useful.
It gives the guests staying at Logie another night together, more time to settle after travelling and an even more relaxed start to the wedding.
An earlier-access option to the drawing and dining rooms is also available.

🐮 Give Your Guests a Proper Scottish Experience
One reason to hold a destination wedding is to give your guests an experience they could not simply have at home.
At Logie you have a historic Scottish house, Highland cows, woodland and riverside grounds, views towards Bennachie and plenty of opportunities to add Scottish touches such as a piper, ceilidh or whisky tasting.
Guests can then extend their visit elsewhere in Scotland before or after the wedding.
The result is not simply a wedding abroad. It becomes a holiday, family gathering and wedding rolled into one.
💷 Comparing the Cost With a U.S. Wedding
I would not recommend comparing weddings simply by looking at the headline venue fee.
At Logie, you are paying for a multi-day exclusive-use venue with accommodation for around 50 guests, rather than simply hiring a reception room for one day.
Many couples also ask the guests staying at Logie to contribute towards their accommodation, which can substantially change the effective cost to the couple.
Our pricing page explains the current venue costs, and the Wedding Cost Estimator lets you see the effect of accommodation contributions for yourself.
